Inaugural Lecture: Liminal Spaces, Flourishing Work, and Creative Practice

We’re excited to highlight Louise Younie’s inaugural lecture, recently shared on LinkedIn, in which she spoke about the interplay between flourishing work, liminal spaces, and creative enquiry.  You can see Louise’s reflections on the evening here.

In her lecture, Louise invited listeners into the “in-between”, and to find themselves in the liminal spaces where change, uncertainty, and transformation unfold. She argued that these are precisely where creative enquiry and flourishing intersect, and although it may at times be an uncomfortable space to exist in, something beautiful can emerge from it.

She challenged the standard narratives of productivity and success, suggesting instead that flourishing work is grounded in reflection, openness, and attending to what often lies just beyond our immediate awareness.

Her talk emphasized that to truly flourish, not just to ‘be well’, is to engage with thresholds, transitions, and the unknown.

By positioning creative practice at the heart of this engagement, she made a compelling case for how artists, clinicians, and educators can together cultivate meaningful spaces of growth, rest, and renewal.

Thank you, Louise, for this insightful evening, and congratulations.
