ACE symposium at QMUL

One of the most energising educational experiences for the Flourishing Spaces team recently was attending the Academy of Clinical Educators meeting at Queen Mary University of London. It was a privilege to be part of the organising team, led by Elspeth Alstead with the support of Rossye Alvarez. The day was enriched by the breadth of voices represented, from students to educators, spanning both primary and secondary care, and grounded in the local context of QMUL medical student clinical placements.
The Southend team made a particularly strong contribution, with Esther A., Emma Jackson, Thivakar Srikandakumar and Muhammad Aftab Toor presenting on prescribing and the use of AI to supplement feedback in communication skills teaching, alongside an evaluation of this work. Nicole Major delivered a standout presentation, drawing on her anthropology background to explore the lived experience of entering the wards as a Year 3 medical student; her reflections on gaining sign-off as a navigation of interpersonal dynamics were especially moving. Our team also enjoyed facilitating postcard-based activities and small-group discussions to explore lived experience and Flourishing Spaces.
