What makes students feel cared for?
Yesterday I met with first year medical students in their first week of term… I explored with them ideas of flourishing, shadow work and what makes us feel cared for. I used previous student images and quotes in the slides presented - ideally I wanted to present with a year five medical student, because the near peer voice carries so much more weight, especially on these kinds of subjects. But Elle, our Flourishing Spaces newsletter editor was busy on hospital placement. The students were quite quiet, not bringing many questions, but I invited them to complete the sentence on menti… ‘as a student I feel cared for when….’ and I constructed it into a poem. I am not sure how the ideas shared landed with students, but their responses were insightful and illustrated again, how important the #HumanDimension of care is.
